The Penny Doubek Award

The Penny Doubek Award is presented in memory of the founder of the JoAnn McGovern Memorial Golf Tournament. Affectionately known as “Mama D”, Penny was a Bay Equity branch manager and mentor to many loan officers. Each year, we will honor her memory by presenting the Penny Doubek Award to someone who exemplifies her vision, enthusiasm and commitment to the tournament.

“We first met Penny in Los Gatos when we asked her to join our company. Penny sat down with us, with that big smile as she sized us up. We were impressed by her warmth and joyful demeanor. Penny had many questions for us. She wanted to know about the three brothers who started a mortgage bank, our family culture and our family. It was at that lunch she learned our mom lost her life to pancreatic cancer in 2011. By the end of our lunch, Mama D had a plan. At that moment, even before she had agreed to join Bay Equity, she declared we were going to start the JoAnn Memorial Golf Tournament in memory of mom. She didn’t stop with the idea. She was the driving force behind our first tournament and its success. In the years since we have raised more than $260,000 to support pancreatic cancer awareness, treatment and research.” - The Brothers McGovern
