In Memory of Penny Doubek

It is with great sadness we share news of the passing of Bay Equity Area Sales Manager Penny Doubek.

Affectionately known as “Mama D”, Penny cared deeply about her family, her team, the Bay Equity family and the McGovern family.

We first met Penny in Los Gatos when we asked her to join our company. Penny sat down with us, with that big smile as she sized us up. We were impressed by her warmth and joyful demeanor.

Penny had many questions for us. She wanted to know about the three brothers who started a mortgage bank, our family culture and our family. It was at that lunch she learned our mom lost her life to pancreatic cancer in 2011. By the end of our lunch, Mama D had a plan. At that moment, even before she had agreed to join Bay Equity, she declared we were going to start the JoAnn McGovern Memorial Golf Tournament in memory of mom. She didn’t stop with the idea. She was the driving force behind our first tournament and its success. In the years since we have raised more than $200,000 to support pancreatic cancer awareness, treatment and research.

As a member of our sales management team, Penny was an enthusiastic promoter of the company’s goals and culture. She readily volunteered to share her experience and expertise with others. She was a motivator.

Sometimes a person comes into your life unexpectedly and proves to be an amazing gift. We remember Penny for her caring and compassionate way. We will forever remember her smile that first day in Los Gatos. We are better people and we are a better organization for having known our friend Penny. “Mama D” was indeed a gift to all.

Penny touched the lives and hearts of so many. Our thoughts and prayers are with her husband Scott and her sons.
